Armenia not going to quit EAEU for now - Pashinyan
YEREVAN. May 27 (Interfax) - Armenia has no intention of leaving the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) at the moment, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"Not only is Armenia not going to leave the EAEU at the moment, but I am the only EAEU official who is simultaneously a member of two of its highest governing bodies [the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council and the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council]," Pashinyan said while meeting with voters during a campaign rally on Wednesday.
All statements claiming that Armenia might possibly withdraw from the EAEU are baseless, Pashinyan said. "Those making such statements don't understand that they are digging a grave for the EAEU," he said.
Pashinyan said he would resume his work within the EAEU following the parliamentary elections set for June 7.
"The acting prime minister, a deputy prime minister, will attend the upcoming EAEU meeting. After June 7, if I receive the mandate, I'll be back to work, and you'll see that all panicked statements will be neutralized. I'll return to the EAEU format, look my counterparts in the eye, and lay out all the arguments on the table," he said.
When Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko says, "Who needs Armenia?", the statement must have a political consequence, Pashinyan said.
"And the consequence is that Armenia will never be left without an alternative. We won't be left relying on a single road, a single pipeline, and a single ally," he said.
