Russia has good potential for agro exports to China; more active marketplace efforts required - Agroexport

MOSCOW. May 27 (Interfax) - The potential to export Russian agricultural products to China, including finished goods, is significant, and more active use of Chinese marketplaces is necessary in order to realize this potential, Agroexport federal center head Ilya Ilyushin said.

"We see great potential in developing supplies to China of various agricultural products, including finished food products, which require more active use of various distribution channels, including marketplaces, to promote," Ilyushin said in the center's press release following a B2B meeting between Russian companies and representatives of the Chinese online platform JD Global. The meeting was held online, and coincided with a business mission of Russian companies to Guangzhou in June 2026.

Ilyushin said that Chinese online trade is projected to grow 8% annually to $280 billion by 2030. Ilyushin emphasized that an online presence is essential in the Chinese market, and many Russian exporting companies are already represented on Chinese online platforms.

Specifically, this applies to the EkoNiva and Ladoga Groups, whose products are sold on the JD.com platform.

"According to research, a significant share of Chinese internet users have already switched to purchasing groceries through marketplaces. Therefore, the presence of Russian products on Chinese online platforms is essential: this is not only a way to increase trade volumes but also a key condition for increasing awareness of Russian brands among Chinese residents," said Dmitry Klishin, agricultural attache in China, quoted in the press release.

JD Cross Border Business Development Manager Sally Wang said that the Cross Border channel was launched in 2014 and currently covers over 20,000 foreign brands, with over 100 million SKUs, sourced from over 100 countries.

"We provide an easier and more efficient entry into the Chinese market. In fact, for food products, business registration with the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China is sufficient, and for some food products, even that is not required," she said.

As reported, Russia boosted agricultural exports to China to $7.7 billion in 2025. The figure has grown nearly 1.5-fold to exceed $3 billion in Q1 of this year.
