Hungary stops agricultural imports from Ukraine, says rights of Hungarian minority must be respected
PRAGUE. May 25 (Interfax) - Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced a ban on agricultural imports from Ukraine on Friday.
"Hungary bans the import of agricultural products from Ukraine," Magyar said on social media.
Magyar also said that Hungary has reversed its decision to leave the International Criminal Court.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban said at a press conference in Prague on Saturday that Hungary stands ready to discuss some Ukraine-related issues only after Kiev changes its attitude to the Hungarian minority in Zakarpattia.
"As you know a Hungarian minority lives in Zakarpattia, and its rights must be respected. It is important for us, this is the first issue in bilateral relations that we must address, and we can discuss the rest later," she said.
Relations between Hungary and Ukraine worsened in 2017 when Kiev adopted a law stipulating that Ukrainian be the primary language of instruction in schools beyond the fifth grade, also restricting the use of the Hungarian language in Ukraine two years later.
