Ukraine reduces wheat exports in Jan-April 2026 YoY

MOSCOW. May 19 (Interfax) - Ukraine exported 3.34 million tonnes of wheat in January-April 2026, down 16% compared to the same period in 2025, Ukrainian media reported citing the State Statistics Service.

In monetary terms, Ukraine's wheat exports decreased in said period by 14.7% to $745 million.

As in 2025, Egypt was the principal buyer of Ukrainian wheat in the first four months of 2026, and its share in the total exports increased to almost 38.9% ($289.7 million) from 22% ($192 million) in January-April 2025, it said.

Algeria purchased $161.7 million worth of Ukrainian wheat, 14% less than in the first four months of last year, and its share in Ukraine's total wheat exports decreased slightly to 21.7%.

Wheat exports from Ukraine to Spain in January-April 2026 dropped by some 65% to $67.1 million, and their share fell to 9% from 21.86%. At the same time, Spain doubled its purchases of Ukrainian wheat to $41.3 million in April 2026 alone compared to April 2025.

Ukraine exported a total of $290 million worth of wheat in April 2026, or 63.9% more than in April 2025. Wheat exports to Egypt increased fivefold to $156.3 million, while exports to Algeria decreased by 32.8% to $30.7 million.

Ukrainian wheat exports to other countries in January-April 2026 fell by more than a quarter to $226.6 million, including a 22.7% decrease to $61.6 million in April alone.

As reported, Ukraine exported 13.63 million tonnes of wheat in 2025, 34% less than in 2024. Its revenues from those exports declined by 20% to around $3 billion last year.
