Uzbekistan to raise electricity, gas tariffs for businesses and households from June
TASHKENT. May 15 (Interfax) - The government of Uzbekistan has adopted a decree raising gas and electricity tariffs by an average of 9.9% from June 1, the country's Ministry of Energy reported on Friday.
The decree will raise the baseline electricity tariffs for households from 600 to 650 sum/kWh and household gas tariffs from 1,000 to 1,100 sum/cubic meter.
The respective tariffs for businesses will increase from 1,000 to 1,100 sum/kWh and 1,800 to 2,000 sum/cubic meter from June onwards.
This is the third phase of the tariff hikes initiated by the authorities. The first phase, in May 2024, was the first since August 2019 and constituted a 52.5% increase from 295 to 450 sum/kWh of electricity and a 71% increase for gas from 380 to 650 sum/cubic meter.
Social electricity consumption norms have also been introduced - up to 200 kWh of electricity and up to 100 cubic meters of gas per month, and 500 cubic meters during the heating season from November to February. As consumption increases, the tariffs also multiply. The social norm concerns the volume which households pay for at a concessional tariff rate. Within the established norm, electricity and gas are sold at a relatively low, concessional price, while volumes exceeding the norm are sold at market prices.
The second phase of the increased tariffs came into effect on May 1, 2025. Electricity prices for households were increased from 450 to 600 sum/kWh, up 33%, while gas prices for households increased from 650 to 1,000 sum/cubic meter, up 54%. The respective prices for businesses were raised from 900 to 1,000 sum/kWh, up 11%, and from 1,500 to 1,800 sum/cubic meter, up 20%.
