USDA expects wheat exports from Ukraine to grow to 13 mln tonnes, corn exports to 23 mln tonnes in 2026/27 MY
MOSCOW. May 14 (Interfax) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecast wheat exports from Ukraine in the 2026/27 marketing year (MY) at 13 million tonnes and corn exports at 23 million tonnes, which is 0.5 million tonnes and 1 million tonnes, respectively, more than in the 2025/26 MY, Ukrainian media reported citing the USDA.
The USDA expects Ukraine's wheat harvest in the next marketing year to decline to 23 million tonnes from 24.1 million tonnes last year, with carryover stocks increasing over the year by 0.9 million tonnes to 4.53 million tonnes, while this year's growth is expected to be 2.9 million tonnes.
Regarding Ukraine's corn harvest, USDA analysts expect it to amount to 30 million tonnes this year, compared to 30.9 million tonnes last year. Export growth should also be driven by a decrease in carryovers of 0.19 million tonnes, while they are projected to grow by 1.91 million tonnes this MY.
Taking into account other crops, the USDA expects the feed grain harvest this year to go down to 36.08 million tonnes from 37.22 million tonnes last year, while its exports should grow in the next MY to 25.19 million tonnes from 24.30 million tonnes in this MY also due to the carryover stocks accumulated this year.
As reported, the Ukrainian Economy Ministry projected the 2026 grain harvest to be around 60.4 million tonnes, which is only 1%, or 0.64 million tonnes, less than last year. In particular, the wheat harvest should be 22.4 million tonnes, barley some 4.7 million tonnes, and corn some 31.6 million tonnes.
The State Statistics Service reported that the 2025 wheat harvest increased by 3.6% to 23.34 million tonnes and corn by 14.6% to 30.9 million tonnes, while barley output declined by 2.4% to 5.2 million tonnes.
The USDA expects Ukraine's wheat harvest to decrease to 819.06 million tonnes this year from 843.84 million tonnes last year, and its exports should decrease to 211.70 million tonnes from 222.68 million tonnes.
The USDA's initial forecast for global corn output this year is 1,295.38 million tonnes and its exports in 2026/27 MY 206.91 million tonnes, while last year's harvest was 1,312.68 million tonnes, and its exports in the 2025/26 MY are expected to reach 213.59 million tonnes.
