BAKU. May 12 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev hosted BP CEO Meg O'Neill in Baku on Tuesday to discuss energy projects and prospects for further collaboration with the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), according to the president's website.

"During the meeting, Aliyev congratulated O'Neill on her appointment as BP's CEO and expressed confidence in continued collaboration with SOCAR. The parties discussed energy projects currently underway in Azerbaijan, including renewable energy projects, as well as BP's activities in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan," according to the statement.

Aliyev noted that the partnership between Azerbaijan and BP has lasted for over 30 years and emphasized the strategic nature.

"The growing number of projects implemented by our country and BP demonstrates the benefits of collaboration for both sides," Aliyev said.

The meeting participants also discussed Azerbaijan's role in ensuring Europe's energy security and prospects for further collaboration between SOCAR and BP.

O'Neill in turn noted the contribution of oil and gas projects in developing Azerbaijan's infrastructure and economy.

O'Neill also met with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov to discuss current collaboration between Azerbaijan and BP, as well as prospects for new projects.
