Russian deputy PM issues instructions to develop provision of discounts to buyers of domestic electrical equipment

MOSCOW. May 8 (Interfax) - The Industry and Trade Ministry together with relevant agencies must analyze the issue of subsidizing part of the cost of domestic electrical equipment for buyers if it is more expensive than imported equipment, according to instructions issued by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak following a meeting of the subcommittee on improving the stability of the financial sector and certain sectors of the economy, the Economic Development Ministry's press service said.

Currently, Russia has a program in place to subsidize discounts on the purchase of domestic equipment, under which the recipients of funds are the manufacturers.

"The deputy prime minister instructed the Industry and Trade Ministry together with executive authorities to refine the program for providing subsidies to Russian organizations to reimburse part of the costs incurred by consumers of industrial products when purchasing Russian equipment, the cost of which exceeds the cost of its imported analogues, specifically in terms of reimbursing the discount to the buyer rather than to the manufacturer," the press service said.

During the subcommittee meeting, Novak pointed out the need for the Industry and Trade Ministry to formulate a plan for producing domestic electrical equipment.

According to data presented by the Industry and Trade Ministry at the meeting, the production of electric motors and generators in Russia increased 7% in 2025 compared to the previous year, amounting to 118 billion rubles. The share of domestic products increased by approximately 4 percentage points to more than 35% of the market. Exports amounted to 35 billion rubles.
