Russian Railways sets 50% discount on domestic scrap metal transportation until Sept 30

MOSCOW. May 5 (Interfax) - OJSC Russian Railways (RZD) has set a 50% discount on the transportation of scrap metal to attract additional cargo to rail transport, the company said.

The discount will be in effect until September 30 (with the possibility of extending it until the end of the year) for domestic transportation of ferrous scrap metal in gondola cars to 28 stations on Russian railways that supply raw materials to metallurgical plants.

According to an extract from the minutes of the meeting of the RZD board, the discount applies to additional amounts of scrap metal exceeding the baseline level for the period from April 1 to September 30 inclusive.
