Azerbaijan's government debt down 6% in Q1

BAKU. April 22 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's government debt as of April 1, 2026 is estimated at 24.465 billion manat ($14.39 billion at the current exchange rate) or 18.7% of GDP, according to materials on the website of the country's Finance Ministry.

The country's government debt amounted to 25.99 billion manat in 2025. It therefore decreased 5.9% in Q1 2026.

According to the Finance Ministry, the country's external debt stood at $4.69 billion (around 8 billion manat) at the end of March, or 6.1% of GDP. It decreased 2.5% in 3M. Domestic debt decreased 7.4% to 16.49 billion manat or 12.6% of GDP.

Some 524.2 million manat were allocated from the budget for government debt servicing, including 132.5 billion manat for external debt payments and 391.7 million manat for domestic debt payments.

As reported, Azerbaijan's government debt decreased 5.1% in 2025.

The Finance Ministry forecasts that government debt will be 27.604 billion manat ($16.2 billion) in 2026, or 21.1% of GDP.

The official exchange rate on April 22 is 1.7 manat/$1.
