Transit of Russian wheat through Latvia increases 2.6-fold in Q1

MOSCOW. April 21 (Interfax) - The transit of Russian grain through Latvia increased 2.6-fold year-on-year in January-March 2026 to 139,400 tonnes, according to the Latvian State Revenue Service (SRS).

The transit of wheat, as well as a mixture of wheat and rye, from Russia through the territory of Latvia amounted to 133,694 tonnes in Q1 (also a 2.6-fold increase); the transit of rapeseed totaled 4,493 tonnes (a 2.7-fold increase), the transit of rice amounted to 40.7 tonnes (-66.7%), the transit of sorghum stood at 15 tonnes (there was no transit a year earlier) and the transit of corn amounted to 10.1 tonnes (-75%).

A total of 673,490 tonnes of grain transited from Russia through Latvia in 2025, down 65.5% from the previous year. The transit of Russian wheat, as well as a mixture of wheat and rye, decreased 54.6% to 665,700 tonnes.
