MOSCOW. April 16 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko and Export-Import Bank of the United States (Eximbank) President John Jovanovic have discussed enhancing economic cooperation in the energy sector at a meeting in Washington, Ukrainian media reported.
"It has been agreed to launch a mechanism to finance the purchase of American energy equipment for Naftogaz in the amount of $300 million. Also discussed parameters of a broader program of modernization of the energy sector to the amount of over $1 billion," media reports quoted Sviridenko as saying on social media following the meeting.
Sviridenko is in Washington for the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group.
The parties also discussed the possibility of devising a mechanism to support American LNG supplies to Ukraine on financing terms comparable to market conditions in the Eurozone.
"To pass the most difficult heating season 2025-2026 state-owned Naftogaz imported record for the country 900 million cubic meters of American LNG. Ukraine is interested in increasing American gas purchases and deepening cooperation with American financial institutions in this regard," Sviridenko said.
In particular, the parties discussed funding formats for the purchase of locomotives for Ukrainian Railways for urgent needs, specifically for the renewal of rolling stock, she said.
