Azerbaijan's oil production falls 4%, gas production unchanged in Q1 - energy ministry

BAKU. April 13 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan produced 6.6 million tonnes of oil and condensate in January-March 2026, a 4.3% decrease year-on-year, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Energy said in a statement, citing preliminary data.

The ministry said that the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) had produced 1.7 million tonnes of oil and condensate at its own fields in the first quarter, down 5.6% YoY. SOCAR accounted for 25.8% of the total volume of oil and condensate produced by the country in the period.

Some 3.9 million tonnes of oil was produced at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block, down 2.5%. This was 59.1% of the total production in the period. Condensate production at the Shah Deniz field fell 10% to 0.9 million tonnes and 28.6% at the Absheron field, totaling 0.1 million tonnes.

The ministry reported that exports of oil with condensate had decreased 8.8% to 5.2 million tonnes in January-March, SOCAR making up 0.3 million tonnes of this, down 56.5%. Oil from the ACG block and condensate from Shah Deniz made up 4.8 million tonnes collectively, down 2.1%, while a further 0.1 million tonnes of the condensate exports came from the Absheron field, down 28.6%.

Azerbaijan's average daily oil production in Q1 totaled 61,000 tonnes or 450,000 barrels, while condensate production totaled 13,000 tonnes or 105,000 barrels. Average daily production of oil with condensate amounted to 74,000 tonnes or 555,000 barrels in January-March.

The Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery processed 1.4 million tonnes of oil in the period, as in Q1 2025.

Azerbaijan produced 12.6 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas in Q1 2026, the same as a year previously.

SOCAR produced 1.8 bcm of gas at its own fields, a 10% decrease.

The Shah Deniz field produced 6.9 bcm of natural gas, up 1.5%, the ACG block produced 3.5 bcm of associated gas, up 2.9%, and the Absheron field produced 0.4 bcm of natural gas, the same as in 2025.
