Azerbaijan boosts gas exports 8% in Q1 to 6.5 bcm

BAKU. April 13 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan exported 6.5 billion cubic meters of gas in Q1 2026, up 8.3% year-on-year, the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry said, citing operational data.

Exports to Europe in January-March 2026 amounted to 3 bcm of Azerbaijani gas (unchanged from Q1 2025). Exports to Turkey stood at 2.4 bcm (+4.3%), including 1.5 bcm via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) (+7.1%). Exports to Georgia totaled 0.8 bcm of gas (+14.3%) and exports to Syria amounted to 0.3 bcm.

During this period, Europe accounted for 46% of total exports, Turkey for 37%, Georgia for 12% and Syria for 5%.

As reported, Azerbaijan exported 25.2 bcm of gas in 2025, matching the figure for the previous year. Exports of Azerbaijani gas to Europe in 2025 amounted to 12.8 bcm, exports to Turkey totaled 9.6 bcm (including 5.6 bcm via the TANAP pipeline), to Georgia they were 2.3 bcm of gas and to Syria they reached 0.5 bcm. During this period, Europe received 50.8% of total exports, Turkey 38.1% of total exports, Georgia 9.1% and Syria 2%.

Azerbaijan began exporting gas to Europe on December 31, 2022.

Azerbaijan has contracts to supply gas to 16 countries, 13 of them in Europe, namely Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, North Macedonia, Germany, Ukraine and Austria.

The annual volume should gradually increase to 15 terawatt-hours (TWh), which is around 1.5 billion cubic meters, including long-term contracts with a fixed supply volume to Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria, and with Germany's Securing Energy for Europe GmbH (SEFE) for 10 years. Contracts without exact purchase volumes have been signed with the remaining countries.

Azerbaijan also exports gas to Turkey via the TANAP and South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP), and to Georgia via the SCP and Hajigabul-Gazakh pipeline.

On August 2, 2025, Azerbaijan began exporting gas to Syria. At the initial stage, the supply volume is 3.4 million cubic meters per day with a subsequent increase to 6 mcm.
