Ukraine's accession to NATO impossible in near future - NATO sec gen
WASHINGTON. April 10 (Interfax) - Ukraine's accession to NATO is impossible in the short term for political reasons, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on April 9.
"I don't think [...] we will be able to collectively solve the NATO membership in the short term. I don't think it will happen politically. So I think that's the fair assessment," he said in a speech at the Ronald Reagan Institute in Washington on Thursday.
"A couple of countries are holding back including Germany and Slovakia, Hungary, the United States. So I don't think it is on the table right now," Rutte said.
He said that the alliance is currently discussing security guarantees for Ukraine.
