Ban on gasoline exports from Russia does not apply to Abkhazia - Abkhaz Energy Ministry

SUKHUM. April 6 (Interfax) - Restrictions on gasoline exports from Russia will not affect Abkhazia, the republic's Energy Ministry said.

The ministry's press service recalled that the Russian government has introduced restrictions on the export of gasoline outside the country. "This decision was made to stabilize domestic fuel prices amid rising Russian exchange and world prices for oil and petroleum products," the press service said.

"The ban on fuel exports from Russia will not affect Abkhazia, since under existing bilateral agreements between the countries, the supply of petroleum products is regulated by a special procedure," the Energy Ministry said.

"Gasoline supplies to Abkhazia will continue as normal," the press service said. In December 2025, Russia and Abkhazia agreed on the amounts of duty-free export of petroleum products from Russia for domestic consumption in Abkhazia in 2026.

The protocol on duty-free fuel supplies to the republic was signed by the Russian Energy and Economic Development Ministries and the Abkhaz Energy and Economy Ministries.

According to this protocol, it is envisaged that duty-free imports from Russia to Abkhazia in 2026 will amount to 70,000 tonnes of motor fuel with an octane rating of less than 95, 23,000 tonnes of gasoline with an octane rating of 95 and above, 23,000 tonnes with an octane rating of less than 98, 30,000 tonnes of diesel fuel, 7,000 tonnes of petroleum bitumen and 2,000 tonnes of propane.
