Annual inflation in Georgia slows to 4.3% in March
TBILISI. April 3 (Interfax) - Consumer prices in Georgia rose 0.8% month-on-month in March after rising 0.2% in February and 1.2% in January, the National Statistics Office reported.
Annual inflation in March - compared to March 2024 - slowed to 4.3% from 4.6% in February and 4.8% in January. Core inflation, excluding seasonally adjusted prices, stood at 2.8% in annual terms.
In the 12-month period from March 2024 to March 2025, inflation was primarily driven by prices for food, up 7.5%, alcoholic beverages, up 6.2%, hotels and restaurants, up 7%, and transportation, up 4%. The increase was also subdued by prices for communications services, which decreased 4.3%, and clothing and footwear, down 3.2%.
Inflation in Georgia rose from 1.9% in 2024 to 4% in 2025, after decreasing to 0.4% in 2023 from 9.4% in 2022 and 13.9% in 2021.
In late March 2026, Georgia's largest investment bank, Galt & Taggart, increased its 2026 inflation forecast for the country from 3% to 4.2% in light of the negative impact of the Middle East crisis and electricity tariffs, which will decrease from April 1 by between 20% and 30% depending on the category of consumer.
