Ukraine's Border Service updates border-crossing statistics
MOSCOW. March 31 (Interfax) - The number of people who crossed Ukraine's western borders over the week from March 21 to 27, 2026 increased by 10.6% to 482,000 compared with the previous week, with the number of people departing the country slightly exceeding the number of those entering it, Ukrainian media reported citing the State Border Service.
The number of departures increased to 245,000 last week from 222,000 the week before, and the number of entries grew to 237,000 from 214,000, it said.
The number of vehicles crossing the border also increased to 124,000 from 110,000, while the number of vehicles carrying humanitarian aid grew to 550 from 483 the week before.
The National Bank of Ukraine anticipates 2026 to see a net outflow of 0.2 million people, while a net inflow should begin in 2027 with around 0.1 million people, increasing to 0.5 million people in 2028.
According to the United Nations Refugee Agency's report updated on February 19, 2026, the number of Ukrainian refugees around the world was estimated at 5.924 million (up from 5.898 million as of January 16, 2026), including 5.375 million in European countries outside of Ukraine (up from 5.349 million).
Inside Ukraine, according to the UN's information updated in January 2026, there were around 3.7 million internally displaced persons (IDPs), compared with 3.34 million in July 2025 and 3.76 million in April 2025.
