Asian Development Bank to provide Tajikistan with $1.1 bln of funding in 2026-2030

DUSHANBE. March 4 (Interfax) - The Asian Development Bank's (ADB) new strategy for Tajikistan involves providing $1.1 billion of funding in 2026-2030, ADB President Masato Kanda announced following a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe on Wednesday.

"Particular attention was paid to the new 2026-2030 partnership strategy for the countries, approved last week. To facilitate its implementation, the ADB plans to allocate approximately $1.1 billion to support key sectors of the country's economy," Kanda was quoted by state news agency Khovar as saying at a briefing after his meeting with Rahmon.

He said the ADB intended to support Tajikistan's economic growth and create new jobs in the region. He said that the strategy's priorities included the development of sustainable and efficient infrastructure, for example, in the energy sector, improving economic governance and boosting the competitiveness of the Tajik economy, and improving the quality and accessibility of social services, including education and healthcare.

The ADB will also continue to support the development of small and medium-sized businesses in the country.

The state news agency also reported that Rahmon had said during his meeting with Kanda that the $2.9 billion of funding from the bank had been important for Tajikistan in allowing it to implement more than 200 projects throughout their cooperation.

The ADB has had a partnership with Tajikistan since 1998.
