Kazakhstan intends to extend ban on exporting LPG again

ASTANA. March 4 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's Energy Ministry plans to extend the ban on exporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by roadway and railway for six months in May this year, according to a draft order published in the country's regulatory database.

"A ban on exporting liquefied petroleum gas is being introduced for six months as of May 14, 2026, in order to ensure an uninterrupted supply of the product to the domestic market of the Republic of Kazakhstan," according to the document that is currently under public discussion until March 19.

The restrictive measures apply to liquefied petroleum gas (Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Foreign Economic Activity Commodity Nomenclature (FEACN) code 2711 12 970 0), propane (EAEU FEACN code 2711 12 940 0), and butane (EAEU FEACN code 2711 13 970 0).

A similar ban was last extended in December 2025.

As reported, a ban on exporting LPG by roadway has been in effect in Kazakhstan since 2017 to prevent the illegal movement of inexpensive fuel intended for the domestic market outside the country.
