Moldova plans to corporatize grid operator by April 2027

CHISINAU. Feb 18 (Interfax) - The Moldovan Energy Ministry has launched the reorganization and corporatization of grid operator Moldelectrica, the ministry said, citing a decision by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu.

"The joint-stock company will carry out the functions of electricity transmission system operator and will be responsible for the national energy system's centralized operational management," it said.

All legal and accounting formalities for the reorganization as well as the transfer of assets and personnel should be complete by April 2027.

"Following the appointment of a professional board of mostly independent directors, the reorganization will be the next step in the modernization of corporate governance, improving operating efficiency and integrating national electricity infrastructure into the European electricity market," the ministry said.

Moldova's National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) certified Moldelectrica as the National System Operator in 2023.

The power transmission system operator needs to be denationalized in keeping with the requirements of the EU's Third Energy Package and the Moldovan government's commitments to accede to the EU Energy Community Treaty.
