EAEU's self-sufficiency in milk approaches 100% - EEC

MINSK. Feb 12 (Interfax) - The self-sufficiency of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in milk is approaching 100%, the director of the Eurasian Economic Commission's Department for Agro-Industrial Policy Naira Karapetyan said.

"The development of the dairy industry in the EAEU countries is one of the main tasks related to ensuring food security. Over the past three years, production of milk and dairy products has grown 5%. The level of self-sufficiency of the union in milk, according to preliminary results for 2025, amounted to 98.8%," Karapetyan was quoted as saying by the EEC's press service at the plenary session of the 14th Russian Congress of Milk Producers and Processors in Moscow.

Karapetyan also informed the meeting's participants about the extension of the mechanism for financial support of cooperative projects in the EAEU to the agricultural sector.

"The mechanism for supporting joint cooperative projects opens up new opportunities for economic entities in the Eurasian space, in particular in the dairy sector," she said.

As reported, the mechanism for financial assistance for cooperative projects in industry was launched in June 2024 in accordance with the regulation on the selection of cooperative projects in industrial sectors and the provision of financial assistance during their implementation by the EAEU member states, approved by the decision of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council dated October 26, 2023.
