Transdniestria extends economic state of emergency for 30 days due to gas supply disruptions
CHISINAU. Feb 10 (Interfax) - The Supreme Council of the Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic on Tuesday approved a decree signed by the republic's leader, Vadim Krasnoselsky, extending the economic state of emergency in the region for another 30 days, until March 17 inclusive.
This decision was made due to the ongoing economic emergency and the continuing deterioration of socio-economic results caused by a drop in natural gas supplies in order to restore the necessary conditions for basic state and household needs, the Supreme Council said on its website.
"Industrial enterprises are not operating at full capacity due to the decline in natural gas supplies, which is reducing revenue for the national and local budgets," the statement said.
Transdniestria first imposed a state of economic emergency on December 11, 2024, for 30 days due to the risk of Russian gas supplies being disrupted. Gas supplies to Transniestria via Moldova were suspended on January 1, 2025 after Russian gas transit through Ukraine came to a halt and due to unresolved financial relations between Moldovagaz and Gazprom . After that the state of emergency was extended five times. It was finally lifted on June 8, but re-imposed on December 2025.
Since February 2025, gas supplies to Transdniestria via Moldovagaz and subsequently via Tiraspoltransgaz have been carried out by MET Gas and Energy Marketing AG, registered in Switzerland and part of the Hungarian-based MET Group international holding company.
Moldovagaz, which organizes gas transit from the Romanian border to Transdniestria, said supplies had been reduced at the request of Tiraspoltransgaz, which had said it did not have enough funds to pay for transit.
