Russia, France had contacts, could rapidly start summit-level dialogue if they want - Peskov

MOSCOW. Feb 10 (Interfax) - Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has confirmed the resumption of contacts with France on the technical level, which could help rapidly launch dialogue between the Russian and French presidents if necessary and desired.

"Contacts have indeed taken place, we can confirm that. If it's necessary and if there is a desire to do so, they can help establish summit-level dialogue rather quickly," Peskov told the media in response to a question about whether Moscow and Paris actually had technical contacts.

"For now, we have seen no indication of such a desire. Still, we have paid attention to the statement by Mr. Macron regarding the need to establish relations with Russia. Such statements appeal to us," he said.

Peskov reminded the media that Moscow had stated long ago, "It was illogical, counterproductive and harmful for all sides to reduce our relations to zero."

"Russia has always supported dialogue, which, in our view, in our opinion, can help resolve the most current, most complicated problems. They won't solve themselves, and confrontation won't help solve them," Peskov said.
