Russia's agricultural exports fall 4.1%, imports rise 15% in 2025 - Federal Customs Service

MOSCOW. Feb 10 (Interfax) - Russia exported food products and agricultural raw materials (excluding textiles) worth $40.9 billion in 2025, down 4.1% compared to the figure for the previous year ($42.6 billion), according to materials from the Federal Customs Service published on the agency's website.

Imports of these products increased 15% to $43.4 billion from $37.7 billion in 2024.

Exports of Russian agricultural products have been declining while imports have been growing since 2024. At that time, Russia exported food products and agricultural raw materials worth $42.6 billion, down 1.1% from the figure for 2023 ($43.1 billion). Imports increased 7%, from $35.1 billion to $37.7 billion. In 2023, the trend was the opposite: exports increased 4.3% compared to 2022 to $43.1 billion, and imports decreased 1.7% to $35.1 billion.

The main export products of Russian agriculture are fat and oil products, fish and seafood, and grains and legumes.

As reported by the Agroexport federal center, grain accounted for 30% of agricultural exports in 2025, while oil and fat products made up 22%.

The Fish Union told Interfax that the share of fish and seafood in Russia's total agricultural exports increased 2.5 percentage points (pp) last year to 14.7%, while their share of imports decreased 0.6 pp to 7.1%.

The decline in exports is explained by the exchange rate, which does not support exports, Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut previously said. In physical terms, exports in 2025 are forecast at 80 million tonnes. In 2024, the figure was 109.2 million tonnes.

President Vladimir Putin has set the agricultural sector the task of increasing exports 1.5-fold by 2030 compared to 2021. According to estimates, this figure should reach $55.2 billion.
