Ukraine's electricity imports up 40% MoM in Jan 2026 - DiXi Group

MOSCOW. Feb 6 (Interfax) - Electricity imports into Ukraine grew 40% month-on-month to 894,500 MWh in January 2026, Ukrainian media reported, citing a statement from the DiXi Group analytical center and Energy Map data.

"This is the highest monthly amount since the launch of the new electricity market in July 2019," DiXi Group said.

Ukraine did not export electricity in January.

For comparison, Ukraine imported 183,100 MWh and exported 84,700 MWh of electricity in January 2025, it said.

Hungary accounted for 45% of Ukraine's electricity imports in January, supplying 402,000 MWh to Ukraine last month. Romania accounted for 21% (185,900 MWh) of Ukraine's electricity imports in January, Slovakia for 18% (159,800 MWh), Poland for 15% (135,200 MWh), and Moldova for 1% (11,600 MWh).

The increase in import volumes from European countries ranged from 18% to 62%, with the exception of Moldova, deliveries from which dropped by 18%.

According to DiXi Group analysts, the maximum cross-border capacity for electricity imports from the European Union to the Ukraine-Moldova control block increased to 2,450 MWh in January 2026, hitting an all-time high since Ukraine's synchronization with the ENTSO-E network.

At the same time, some of this capacity is used to import electricity into Moldova, leaving around 2,100 MWh of commercial import capacity available for Ukraine. The permitted import capacity for each country within the control block is dynamic and may change depending on the current situation in the countries' power grids.
