Turkmenistan, ADNOC to expand gas partnership
ASHGABAT. Feb 4 (Interfax) - Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and United Arab Emirates Industry and Advanced Technology Minister Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, who also serves as CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), discussed prospects for cooperation in the energy sector at a meeting in Dubai on Tuesday.
"During the talks, the sides emphasized the constructiveness of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UAE in the gas sector. The parties appraised the progress of current projects and discussed potential areas of cooperation for further expansion of the partnership," Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry reported.
They agreed at the meeting to work on further developing and strengthening cooperation through regular meetings and consultations between representatives of the two countries to ensure consistent collaboration in priority areas.
Turkmen media reported that ADNOC is actively expanding its presence in the Central Asian country. The company opened a representative office in Ashgabat in November 2025 and last May it acquired a 38% stake in Malaysian oil company Petronas's project to develop Block 1 in Turkmenistan's sector of the Caspian Sea, where production totals about 400 million cubic feet (about 11.3 million cubic meters) of natural gas per day. Recoverable reserves are estimated at 7 trillion cubic feet (about 198.2 bcm).
ADNOC also plans to participate in the development of the huge Galkynysh field with reserves of 26.4 trillion cubic meters of gas.
