Russian FM tells Cuban FM that Russia ready to continue providing Havana with political, financial support - Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Feb 2 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has had a phone call with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, during which he expressed readiness to continue providing the required political and financial support to the country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The Russian side reaffirmed its principled position that exerting economic and military pressure on Cuba is unacceptable, specifically obstructing energy supplies to the island, which is fraught with a serious deterioration of the economic and humanitarian situation in the country," the ministry said in a statement published on its website on Monday.

"Firm readiness has been expressed to continue providing Cuba with the required political and financial support," the statement said.

Priority issues of bilateral cooperation and the international agenda were discussed in the phone call, it said.

"The ministers also discussed the schedule of upcoming Russian-Cuban contacts," the statement said.
