Naftogaz raises further 50 mln euros from EIB to import gas
MOSCOW. Jan 30 (Interfax) - Ukraine's Naftogaz has secured an additional 50 million euros from the European Investment Bank for gas imports, Ukrainian media quoted the company as saying on social networks.
The funds will be used to pay for gas imports and support the energy system during peak load periods.
The new financing complements an earlier EIB loan of 300 million euros, as well as 127 million euros in EU grant support with the participation of the Norwegian government.
"Naftogaz commits to reinvesting an amount equivalent to the financing secured into renewable energy projects," the company said.
"Naftogaz is also importing electricity, covering more than 50% of its own consumption needs, thereby supporting the entire system," the media quoted Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky as saying on social media.
He said sufficient gas was still being imported and that supply channels had been diversified considerably.
