Ukraine, Poland agree to increase gas import capacity 20% by end-April - minister
MOSCOW. Jan 27 (Interfax) - Gaz-System, an operator of Poland's gas transmission system, and Ukraine's Gas Transmission System Operator have agreed on a phased increase in the capacity for gas imports from Poland to Ukraine starting in early February 2026, which provides for a higher capacity of this route from 15.3 million cubic meters per day to 18.4 mcm per day by the end of April, Ukrainian media reported, citing Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denis Shmygal.
"The Polish route provides access to various sources of gas and remains one of the key import routes. In 2025, 2.1 billion cubic meters of gas were delivered via Poland - more than 30% of total imports, in particular, around 600 million cubic meters of American LNG," Shmygal wrote on Telegram on Tuesday.
Increasing import opportunities is part of a systematic effort to enhance Ukraine's energy security and diversify gas supply routes, he said.
