Ukrainian Border Service updates border-crossing statistics

MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax) - The number of people who crossed Ukraine's western borders over the week from January 17 to 23, 2026 decreased by another 13.3% to 419,000 compared with the previous week, and the number of people entering Ukraine was again larger than those departing it, Ukrainian media reported referring to the State Border Service's social media post.

The number of people who crossed into Ukraine last week decreased to 214,000 from 248,000, while the number of those leaving Ukraine was down to 205,000 from 235,000 the week before, it said.

The number of vehicles crossing the border, including those carrying humanitarian aid, remained roughly the same for the third week in a row, 109,000, while the number of vehicles carrying humanitarian aid grew to 450 from 394.

According to the United Nations Refugee Agency's report updated on January 16, 2026, the number of Ukrainian refugees around the world was estimated at 5.898 million (up from 5.860 million as of December 11, 2025), including 5.349 million in European countries outside of Ukraine (up from 5.311 million).

Inside Ukraine, according to the UN's information updated in July 2025, there were around 3.340 million internally displaced persons (IDPs), down from 3.757 million recorded in April 2025.
