Ukraine daily taking 52 mcm of gas from underground storage facilities with consumption up to 140 mcm
MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax) - Ukraine is taking 52 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas from underground storage facilities per day amid cold weather with due account of imports, versus 50 mcm last year, Ukrainian media said, citing former Energy Minister Olga Buslavets.
"Consumption has reached up to 140 mcm on certain days, which is one of the largest amounts since the beginning of the crisis," media quoted Buslavets' statement on a social network.
Ukraine has restored domestic gas production almost to the fullest, Buslavets said.
Meanwhile, Gas Transmission System Operator said that net gas imports of Ukraine (including re-exports and short-haul transit totaling 3.6 mcm per day) had been varying from 19 mcm to 21 mcm per day. Imports are coming from Hungary, Poland and Slovakia with small amounts from Moldova and Romania.
As of the end of last week (January 19-25), gas amounts in Ukrainian underground storage facilities reached 11.2 billion cubic meters (bcm) per day (including 4.7 bcm per day of long-term storage gas), which is 30% or 2.6 bcm per day larger than last year.
Meanwhile gas amounts in European underground storage facilities decreased to 51.5 bln per day, or 48% of the capacity, which is 23% less than the average amount of the past five years and 19% of 12 bcm per day below last year's level.
As reported, the total gas amount in Ukrainian underground storage facilities exceeded the 8.5 bcm target of the national government as of November 1, 2025, excluding long-term storage gas (process gas).
