Uzbekistan expands cooperation with EBRD
TASHKENT. Jan 22 (Interfax) - Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has discussed prospects for cooperation with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) President Odile Renaud-Basso on the sidelines of events in Davos, the Uzbek presidential press service said in a statement on Thursday.
"Practical aspects of further deepening strategic partnership and expanding cooperation with this leading financial institution were discussed," the statement said.
Mirziyoyev highly appreciated the EBRD's contribution to developing green energy in the country, retrofitting transport infrastructure, implementing environmental programs, reforming the financial market and promoting entrepreneurship.
The parties identified priority areas of cooperation for the current year, including the development of the private sector, infrastructure, and the digital transformation of railway transport. They focused on the continuation of programs to train women and youth in modern professions and businesses.
Uzbekistan is the leading recipient of EBRD funding in Central Asia. The bank's total investment in the country's economy amounted to nearly $7 billion. The volume of transactions exceeded $1 billion in 2025.
As reported, Mirziyoyev is on a working visit to Switzerland, where he took part in the signing ceremony of the Board of Peace Charter in Davos on January 22.
