Russia produces 440 mln tonnes of coal in 2025 - Novak
MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax) - Russia produced 440 million tonnes of coal according to preliminary data, including new regions, in 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak wrote in his column for the Energy Policy journal.
Novak said, citing data, that "80% of export flows are directed to Asia-Pacific countries."
Measures to support the coal industry adopted in 2025 enabled coal production and supplies to be maintained at 2024 levels, he said.
The Energy Ministry expects coal production in Russia in 2025 to remain at the previous year's level, Deputy Energy Minister Dmitry Islamov told journalists on the sidelines of Russian Energy Week in October. He said coal production and exports are expected to be flat in 2026 also.
In 2024, coal production in Russia amounted to 443.5 million tonnes, with 196.2 million tonnes supplied for export, Novak said in a previous Energy Policy column. According to Rosstat data, production decreased 0.6% compared to 2023, to 427 million tonnes, not including the Donetsk People's Republic, the Lugansk People's Republic and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
