Okto Group may buy Nordgold's assets in Burkina Faso - source

MOSCOW. Jan 19 (Interfax) - Okto Group may buy Nordgold's assets in Burkina Faso, a source familiar with the company's plans told Interfax.

According to another source, representatives of one of the potential contenders for Nordgold's assets recently visited the site in Burkina Faso. The agency's source did not specify who exactly it was.

Okto, Nordgold , and Alexei Mordashov's Severgroup declined to comment.

Previously, Izvestia reported, citing its sources, that the deal amount for the sale of Nordgold's assets in Burkina Faso that was discussed totals $1 billion or more.

According to the latest disclosed data (for 2021), the combined production of Nordgold's mines in Burkina Faso - Bissa and Bouly - was around 270,000 ounces.

Okto Group entered gold mining in 2024 by buying placer assets from Polyus . In 2025 it added the Zapadnaya mining and processing plant and a number of other projects to them, and agreed to buy the Novo-Shirokinsky mine. The group's board of directors is headed by Alexei Tolokonnikov.

Nordgold is among the top 10 gold mining companies in Russia. The group also combines assets in Kazakhstan, Guinea and Burkina Faso. According to the latest available data, the controlling shareholder was Marina Mordashova.
