Rada appoints Shmygal Ukraine's first deputy PM, energy minister
MOSCOW. Jan 14 (Interfax) - The Verkhovna Rada appointed Denis Shmygal first deputy prime minister and energy minister on Wednesday upon nomination by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Ukrainian media reported.
The Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday dismissed Shmygal from the post of defense minister, which he had held since July 17, 2025. Prior to that, Shmygal served as Ukrainian prime minister.
Before Shmygal's appointment, the Energy Ministry was headed by Svetlana Grinchuk, who lost her position at the end of last year as a result of a corruption scandal in the energy sector involving people from Zelensky's inner circle.
