Transit of Russian wheat via Latvia halves in 2025
MOSCOW. Jan 12 (Interfax) - Transit of Russian grain and rapeseed via Latvia dropped 65.5% year-on-year in 2025, the Latvian State Revenue Service said.
Namely, there were 665,700 tonnes of wheat and a wheat-rye mixture transported through Latvia from Russia last year, down 54.54% year-on-year; 1,180 tonnes of buckwheat, millet, and barley, down 56.5% decrease; 431 tonnes of rice, down 40.5; 189 tonnes of oats, down 95.6%; and corn shipments dropped sharply to 79 tonnes.
The State Revenue Service reports that 5,900 tonnes of rapeseed and coleseed were transited, with imports totaling 15,200 tonnes. These crops are not subject to the government's ban on imports of agricultural and feed products into Latvia, as imposed on March 5, 2024. No grain was imported into Latvia from Russia last year.
As reported, 214,800 tonnes of grain were imported from Russia to Latvia in 2024, down 49.3% year-on-year, and 1.877 million tonnes of grain were transited from Russia, down 16.3%.
