Russia, India working to create conditions for economic operators' work on their markets - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Nov 17 (Interfax) - Russia and India are working on creating mutually favorable conditions for the work of economic operations on the markets of both countries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"It's understandable that at this stage, we are giving particular, very serious attention to creating favorable conditions for the work of our economic operations on each other's markets," Lavrov said opening talks with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Moscow.

The two countries "are constantly expanding the range of goods in their mutual trade and are building transport and logistics chains that are immune to any external illegitimate influence," he said.

Lavrov listed the North-South Transport Corridor and the Northern Sea Route among the most promising projects in which Russia and India actively participate.

"We have good achievements and probably even more sound prospects in energy, industry, agriculture, military and military-technical cooperation, in scientific, technical and cultural ties," he said.

"The ministers discussed the current aspects of the bilateral and international agenda with a focus on preparations for the annual Russian-Indian summit, which will take place on the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Strategic Partnership Declaration between the two countries," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website.

"The foreign ministers reaffirmed the commitment of Russia and India to forming a just multipolar world order and ensuring global security. They agreed to continue to coordinate approaches to interaction within Russia and India within key multilateral formats, such as the UN, the [Shanghai Cooperation Organization] SCO, BRICS, and the Group of 20," the statement said.

"The sides reiterated their mutual commitment to further advancing the Russian-Indian special and privileged strategic partnership," it said.
