Tokayev, Mirziyoyev sign number of documents following meeting of Kazakh-Uzbek Supreme Interstate Council
ASTANA. Nov 17 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Uzbek president Shavkat Mirziyoyev have adopted a joint statement and signed a number of documents following talks and the second meeting of the two countries' Supreme Interstate Council on Saturday.
The following documents were signed: the Supreme Interstate Council's decision on the establishment of the Council of the Heads of Regions of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, the Supreme Interstate Council's decision on the establishment of a bilateral working group for geology and extraction of rare and rare earth metals, the Supreme Interstate Council's decision on the establishment of a bilateral working group for forecasting water volume in the river running across the two countries' borders, the Kazakh presidential press service said.
In addition, a framework agreement on cooperation was signed between Kazakhstan's Samruk-Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund and the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the press service for the former said.
The document signed by the Kazakh and Uzbek funds is aimed at the development of strategic partnership and the creation of a joint investment platform for the implementation of projects in the key sectors of the economy.
"The agreement opens new opportunities for joint investments in such sectors as metallurgy, the mining industry, transport, logistics and others, the press service said.
