Kazakhstan to increase volume of Russian gas transit to Uzbekistan - Tokayev
ASTANA. Nov 17 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has announced plans to increase transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan's territory, the press service for the Kazakh leader said.
"The Russia-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan gas project is showing successful results. We are planning to increase the gas transit volume by joint efforts," Tokayev said at a joint press briefing with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent on Saturday.
Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have good prospects to expand cooperation in the oil sector and the nuclear energy, Tokayev said, emphasizing the need for close coordination of efforts in the water energy sector in the spirit of good neighborliness, mutual respect and account for each other's interests.
Tokayev is paying a state visit to Tashkent.
Supplies of Russian gas to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan started in October 2023. According to information published by the Kazakh Energy Ministry earlier, 1.28 billion cubic meters of gas were transported via Kazakhstan in 2023 and 5.6 billion cubic meters in 2025. It is planned to increase the transit volume to 7.3 billion cubic meters in 2025 with the subsequent growth to 11 billion cubic meters by 2038.
