Demand for steel pipes in Russia down 13% in 9M, 11% decrease expected for 2025
ST. PETERSBURG. Nov 11 (Interfax) - Demand for steel pipes in Russia fell 13% year-on-year in 9M and amounted to 7.3 million tonnes, according to a presentation of Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) prepared for the Russian Metals Market conference.
According to the presentation, demand stood at 11.2 million tonnes in 2024, with companies in the industrial sector accounting for around 55% of the total consumption and the remaining 45% accounted for by the energy segment. In January-September 2025, the industrial segment accounted for 59% of the total consumption and the energy segment for 41%.
The Pipe Industry Development Fund expects a decrease in steel pipe consumption of 11% this year, to 10 million tonnes compared to 11.2 million tonnes in 2024, the fund's head, Pavel Rodin, said at the conference.
The main factors restraining demand in the domestic market are an overcooled economy, a high key rate which limits investments and development projects, rising costs and a significant level of inflation, TMK said.
According to a survey of regional consumers of TMK pipe products conducted by the company, more than half (52%) of respondents forecast a continued decline in demand in 2026, while only 11% expect a market recovery.
