Japan plans to continue importing liquefied gas from Russia for now - PM

TOKYO. Oct 29 (Interfax) - Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has told Washington that Tokyo would continue to buy Russian liquefied natural gas for the time being, Kyodo News reported on Wednesday.

A Japanese government spokesperson said Takaichi outlined this position during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had said the U.S. administration expected Tokyo to stop importing Russian energy.

Trump has repeatedly called on numerous countries to stop buying oil from Russia and claimed that lowering its market price would end the Ukraine conflict.
