Russian Deputy PM Overchuk, Malaysian PM discuss bilateral cooperation

MOSCOW. Oct 27 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk has met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 20th East Asia Summit (EAS) in Malaysia to discuss the agenda of bilateral trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation, a statement on the Russian government website said on Monday.

The sides paid special attention to "implementing energy and agricultural projects and their joint effort to strengthen transport connectivity between Russia and Malaysia for the purposes of developing new supply chains between northern and southern Eurasia," the statement said.

"It was noted that Russian-Malaysian cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats is based on mutual respect and regard for each other's interests. Following these principles creates the best conditions for a deeper partnership and commercial bond between the two countries in the long run," the statement said.

The two sides agreed to continue to maintain contact between their governments, financial institutions and interested economic operators, including the next meeting of the bilateral economic, scientific, technological and cultural cooperation commission due to be held in November 2025.

"Overchuk congratulated Malaysia on its successful presidency of the ASEAN [Association of Southeast Asian Nations] and the adoption of ASEAN Community Vision 2045 that will define the main routes of the ASEAN's development for the next 20 years, boost its resilience and role in regional processes," the statement said.
