Russian prosecutor general signs UN Convention against Cybercrime

HANOI. Oct 27 (Interfax) - Russian Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan has signed the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime on Russia's behalf.

The solemn ceremony took place in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Saturday. Vietnamese President Luong Cuong greeted the heads of the delegations.

The UN Convention against Cybercrime was drafted at the Russian Prosecutor General's Office's initiative with the coordinating role of the Russian Foreign Ministry. The document is the world's first international treaty in countering the use of information and communication technologies for criminal purposes.

The convention contains the legal framework for establishing and strengthening cooperation between law enforcement agencies of the state parties.

The convention was adopted by the UN General Assembly in December 2024. The signing is the next stage for its entry into effect.

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office said that the countries which did not participate in the ceremony could sign the convention in Hanoi before the end of the year and then at the UN Headquarters in New York until December 31, 2026.
