Putin agrees that Russia, United States may hold another summit in future - Peskov
MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The Kremlin disagrees that the Russian-U.S. summit has been thwarted, as U.S. President Donald Trump does not rule out such a meeting in the future, and Russian President Vladimir Putin shares this opinion.
"True, President Trump has said he has stopped thinking about the summit for now. At the same time, he has said on numerous occasions in the past two days that he does not rule out holding such a summit in the future. President Putin shares this opinion," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists.
Neither Trump nor Putin "want to waste time and hold the meeting for its own sake," Peskov said. Work needs to be done at the level of foreign ministries in order to make the meeting productive, he said.
No one set precise dates for the Russian-U.S. summit, Peskov said. "From this angle, it is very hard to thwart what was not exactly agreed upon," he said.
Peskov thus commented on a statement by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky who said he had thwarted the Russian-U.S. summit in Budapest.
