White House doesn't rule out Trump-Putin meeting in future

WASHINGTON. Oct 23 (Interfax) - U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration hope that a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Ukraine settlement will still happen in the future, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said.

"A meeting between these two leaders is not completely off the table. I think the President and the entire administration hopes that one day that can happen again, but we want to make sure that there is a tangible positive outcome out of that meeting," she told a briefing.

A phone talk between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was not the only reason why Trump found that now is not the time to meet with Putin, Leavitt said. The phone call was productive, she said, citing Rubio.

Trump has expressed his displeasure about the positions of both sides, she said.

Trump earlier said he had cancelled his meeting with Putin which was planned in Budapest.
