Russia expecting progress on Ukraine settlement, discussion of Russian-U.S. relations from Budapest summit - Peskov
MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax) - The Kremlin hopes that the upcoming Russia-U.S. summit in Budapest will provide an opportunity to advance toward peaceful solution to the Ukraine conflict and discuss bilateral Russian-U.S. issues, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"The first thing is to move forward to peaceful Ukraine settlement, and also to use the meeting for discussing our bilateral relations," Peskov said when asked what Russia expects from the upcoming summit in Budapest.
There are no details yet on the format of the planned summit, Peskov said.
"There are currently no details [of the format of the meeting in Hungary], no understanding. A lot of internal work remains to be done. There is also work to be done via the foreign affairs agencies: our Foreign Ministry, the Department of State. Their work will be focused on responding to the questions you raised," Peskov said when asked about the possibility of inviting Ukrainian and European representatives to the summit and the documents that can be signed there.
Kiev's position on settling the Ukraine conflict is highly contradictory, which hinders the search for a peaceful solution, Peskov said.
"We are seeing rather contradictory statements made in Kiev. We also see that the position of the Kiev regime is full of contradictions. None of that helps the peace settlement process," Peskov told the press.
Moscow's stance on the conflict is consistent and well known, he said.
"We continue our communication, in this case with the Americans, on the topic of a Ukrainian settlement. Serious work is being done, and we shall see what happens next. The contradictions in Kiev we are observing do not help this process, quite the opposite, they are hindering it," Peskov said.
