Peskov: Putin-Trump meeting may take place within 2 weeks or bit later

MOSCOW. Oct 17 (Interfax) - U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks that he may meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin within two weeks symbolize the shared understanding of the need not to delay these talks, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"Indeed, it may take place within two weeks or a bit later. The common understanding is that nothing should be put off," Peskov told journalists on Friday.

When asked whether it is known when a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio may take place, Peskov said, "They will decide it and inform you about it themselves."

The logistics of Putin's flight to Budapest, if this city is to host a new Russia-U.S. summit, is not yet clear, Peskov said.

"Of course, it's not clear at this point. There is now the presidents' will to hold such a meeting," Peskov said in reply to the corresponding question.

"[Russian] Foreign Minister [Sergei] Lavrov and [U.S.] Secretary of State [Marco] Rubio will start to tackle this issue [organization of the summit]. First, they will speak by phone and meet, they will start to discuss all topics, all issues," he said.

"There are many issues," Peskov said.

"It is necessary to select the negotiation teams and so on. This will be done in a stage-by-stage manner, but there is the presidents' will, it has been recorded. It was discussed during yesterdays' phone conversation," he said.
