Segezha begins exporting sawn timber to Tunisia, may begin plywood exports
MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax) - The Segezha Group timber holding has begun exporting sawn timber to the Tunisian market.
The company's press service told Interfax that it had shipped 4,000 cubic meters of Angara pine to Africa.
This was purchased by a "long-time business partner of the Russian timber industry, who has many years of experience" of working in Tunisia and Russia, Segezha said.
"This shipment is an important strategic step for us. We have ambitious projects. We are currently negotiating to expand the range of goods which we export, by which we are referring specifically to birch plywood. The quality of Angara pine and the reliability of our Tunisian partner open up broad opportunities for our holding to grow its presence in the region," deputy CEO and executive of Segezha Nikolai Ivanov is quoted as saying by the company.
China still remains Segezha's main export market for sawn timber, purchasing 78% of the volume of product sold in the first half of 2025, which totaled 1 million cubic meters, just short of last year's volume. MENA countries made up a further 15% of sawn timber sales, and Russia made up 5%.
Segezha had previously announced plans to enter markets in North Africa. Two years ago, Ivanov said that the company was considering establishing a production and logistics hub in Egypt in order to supply its products both to Egypt and other nearby countries.
