Putin, Netanyahu discuss Mideast developments, including in context of Trump's Gaza peace plan - Kremlin
MOSCOW. Oct 6 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have spoken by phone, the Kremlin's website said on Monday.
The Kremlin's Telegram channel, in turn, said in a statement that Putin and Netanyahu had discussed developments in the Middle East.
"The current developments in the Middle East were thoroughly discussed, including in the context of the plan put forward by the U.S. president for normalization in the Gaza Strip. Vladimir Putin reaffirmed Russia's unwavering position in favor of a comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue on a well-known international legal basis," the statement said.
The parties exchanged views on other regional issues, it said. "In particular, they expressed interest in finding negotiated solutions to the situation around the Iranian nuclear program and in further stabilization in Syria," the Kremlin said.
Netanyahu also expressed his best wishes to Putin on the eve of the latter's birthday.
"For his part, the Russian president congratulated Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli people on the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot," the statement said.
